Winter coats

Temperatures are dropping quickly and it has me daydreaming of awesome-bold-oversize-stand out coats! I usually go for a neutral plain coat, but this year I have my eye on something with a pop. 

My mother wore a long wool coat with a fur collar on her wedding day and I have been obsessed with it ever since I saw the picture. You can see it here. Unfortunately she didn't keep hers..crazy right?! So I've been searching thrift stores for the perfect one. If that fails, one of these coats will probably come home with me.

September marks the unofficial start of the fall season. Since it's here we might as well enjoy it! One thing I'm loving are fun prints and patterns on sweaters. I plan to add one or two to my wardrobe. Maybe even pick up a sweater from the thrift store and DIY some kind of pattern onto it.

Favorite Boots

I cannot stop thinking about new boots. I mentioned in a previous post how much I love cut out booties. Problem is.. it's really not in my budget right now. #brokegirlproblems 

but I looveee them!! That should justify it enough right?! lol 

I never really impulse buy. If I see something I like, I usually ask myself 3 questions. 1. Do I already have something similar? 2. Is it something I can wear with a lot? 3. Is it going to cost an arm and a leg? 

When thinking about my new favorite type of boots my answers are no, yes, maybe. I'm currently searching for a pair of cut out booties that are less than $100 (more like $50). This black pair were perfect at only $50 but they're sold out : /

5 Pieces to take you from Summer to Fall

Summer is quickly coming to an end..how did that happen?! If your like me. there's no way your getting an entire new wardrobe for the fall, so here are five items I feel can easily update the wardrobe you already have. The best part.. you probably already have most of them.

A denim jacket literally goes with everything. Throw it over a dress and booties and your good to go. Or wear with black skinnies and a tank top. Boom done.

A leather jacket is another piece that you can wear with everything. I love it with a dress. More inspo. Here, here, and here.

One new thing I'll be getting is a pair of booties. I love the cut out boots I've been seeing around lately. And these Steve Madden boots are perfect for the fall!

Scarves are a super easy way to update your look. I love my leopard one, because we all know leopard print is like a neutral. lol

Loose fitting pants are ahh-mazing! Whether they're boyfriend jeans or super soft cotton pants. See how I wore them here and some more inspo on how to wear them here and here.

These are a few things I'm loving right now all wrapped up in one outfit. Full minis--obsessed! Crop tops..yes please! This Michael Kors bag might be my first grown up purse.. I LOVE it I need it in my life! Black & white, stripes, polka dots.. yes yes and yess any day!

I should start off by saying I was never a fan of white shoes, I always thought they were the tackiest thing ever! lol But lately I have be loving them! They just seem so chic, especially with outfits like this, this, andd this. SO good! The only problem is the ones I have fell in love with are all really expensive (for my budget)  But the cap toe heels above are only $75! 

How do you feel about white shoes?! Love 'em or hate 'em?!

Yes it is February and yes it is still really cold outside, but I can't stop thinking of the cute new things I want to add to my closet this spring! 

Crushing on: Sneakers

I put together this look after seeing this pin. I'm sure you've seen camo print everywhere and I'm still loving it. I'm also loving sneakers lately. Not wedge girly sneakers (although I like those too!) I'm talking about Nike's, high tops, dunks.. I haven't bought myself a pair of sneakers in years. I've been stuck on flats, shoes, and oxfords. But in the past month or so I have really been crushing on them. Maybe because Josh is a huge sneaker fan, he has an entire closet full of boxes. I usually help him pick out outfits and lately I've been having more fun doing that than picking out my own outfits. So it's time I give in and buy myself a pair! 

This is definitely one way I would wear my sneakers.

Christmas wish list

Christmas is just a few weeks away, with trying to decide what to get everyone else, I've also been thinking of what I would like for myself. So Josh or Melissa (my sister) if you're reading this... here are some stuff I would love! ; ) 

-I always like to carry around a little notebook or planner in my purse. I know I can put everything in my phone, but I like to actually write it down. And my last one was ruined at my job during Sandy.

-I usually don't wear a lot of perfume, but my sister has this Gucci one and I LOVE it! Every time I go over to her house I sneak some..Sorry Melissa it's true lol

-I really need a new laptop. I use Josh's now, but I need something of my own. I would really like something light weight that I can carry in my purse if I need to. If you have any suggestions, I would love to know. 

-Also a cute carrying case for it! 

-I think faux fur collars and scarves are just so cute! The collars look good layered over just about anything and they look really warm and cozy.

Holiday Gift Guide: For Men

Michael Kors watch/ watch box/ Fossil bag/ Delonghi espresso maker/ Ralph Lauren Robe

I thought it would be fun to put together a gift guide if anyone is still trying to figure out what to get the man in your life for Christmas  Whether it's your boyfriend/husband/brother/father. I think any man would love to receive any of these things! 

- Watches are to men what shoes are to women. They love them and can never have too many! 

- Once they start a collection, they are going to need a cool little place to store them all. 

- A weekend bag is great if your guys travels for work or even just to have for a quick vacay. 

- Josh and I love to go on little coffee dates, but going all the time can get expensive. Make them at home, get comfortable and watch a movie! ; ) 

- A cozy robe is a must for lounging around on those lazy weekends! 

I think some other stuff that would be great gifts are: a new wallet, cologne, boots or shoes (some men love them too!) Have you finished up your holiday shopping or are you just getting started?!

A few things on my wish list and what I wish I was wearing right now. I was just telling Josh I don't really have a winter coat, instead I have a lot of blazers and jackets. I don't really like heavy bulky puffy coats, so I just layer a few of my jackets together-- throw on a beanie, cozy scarf and I'm ready to go!

One jacket I am missing is a green parka or cargo type jacket. If I was wearing this now, to keep me extra toasty I would layer my denim jacket under this one here.

New for fall

I put together this list of what I think are five simple ways to update your fall wardrobe. You can easily mix and match each of these pieces with what you already have in your closet.

1. You might have seen my favorite color for fall post, so you know I had to put a pair of burgundy skinnies on this list. They go with everything! And the color is huge this season. see how I wore them here. 

2. I just started wearing lipstick this year and now I love wearing it for a night out. I am dying to try a dark red-plum-burgundy type of color this season. 

3. Leather jackets are always "in style" so I think it's finally time for me to invest in a good quality jacket that will last a while. You can style it for an edgy vibe or wear it with a dress for a more girly look.

4. Leopard flats/loafers can be an easy way to add interest to an otherwise basic outfit. Also an easy way to do a little print mixing. see how I did it here.

5. I've been seeing camo print everywhere lately, and honestly I was never a huge fan of it, but when done in the right way it does look good! like this or this. Now I am dying to get my hands on a jacket or a pair of skinny jeans.

Fall Color

One color I'm really big on for the fall is burgundy. So I put together some of the burgundy items I'm hoping to get my hands on soon! The best part is everything in this set is under $50! 

I feel like burgundy can quickly make any outfit a bit more interesting. Mix it with tan, yellow, grey, green, black, leopard print, stripes, denim, a leather jacket.. I can go on and on.  I think my favorite combo would be a burgundy pant with leopard print top.. Love!

My Summer Essentials

These are just a few basics pieces I probably couldn't get through summer without. I like versitlity so having pieces I can wear a lot of different ways is important to me.

- A white button down can seriously be worn with everything! I bought one from Charlotte Russe years ago and still wear it today. A loose button down in every color is what I'm aiming for!
- A fun dress is always a good move. You can dress it up or down. Bonus points if you can put a skirt over and wear it as a blouse or put a blouse over and wear it as a skirt. That's three outfits! 
- I usually go for dark oversize sunnies, but I really love these Rayban aviators.
- When I want a break from denim cut offs, loose colorful shorts are the next best thing. Throw on a blouse and heels for a great date night outfit/girls night out. Or pair it with a t-shirt and sandals for a comfy chic daytime look. These are from H&M and are only $25.
- Denim cut offs. How could you not love these?! Perfect for a casual BBQ or a day at the beach. And you can add a blazer and heels for a perfect summer night. Plus they can easily be DIY-ed using a pair of old jeans.
- Lastly, bathing suits. During the summer I love spending time at the beach & pool. I usually buy separates because I like to mix and match different colors for a fun look.

Current Obsessions: DIY Edition

I usually put together inspiration boards of new things I want, but I was thinking this time I would put together one of things I can actually DIY. I love DIYs and thrifting mainly because I love a good deal! I love to seek out inspiration find things I like then either DIY them or find similar pieces at a thrift store.

Like lately I've really been into these loose equipment button downs, but there is no way I am paying that much for a shirt. So I've been searching thrift stores for silk button downs and guess what?! I found a couple! Like this cream one and this yellow one.

These are three really simple styles you can DIY. This weekend I plan to use pink dye and Ombre a shirt, stud a pair of denim shorts, and turn linen pants into scallop shorts. Then come back next week with full outfit photos. Hopefully inspiring you guys! : ) 

Summer Time Fine

I have two finals and one week of work before my schedule changes and I start enjoying my break.

I wrote a bucket list of things I want to do. 

Like: Go to the Statue of Liberty. I've lived so close my entire life and have never been!

Lots of fairs and flea markets like the Brooklyn Flea and Hester Street Fair

Eat at Jive Turkey. The only place I know of that makes fried turkey..yumm I have to try it!

Go to Central Park more! It really is so nice.
Have picnics.
Coney Island. Six Flags and so much more...

I live so close to NYC about 10 min on the path but I don't take advantage of all the cool stuff I can do! This summer will change that ; )

The above outfits are my inspiration for what I want to wear while doing it all. Loose tops, cut off shorts, sandals, converse, and comfy cute dresses for the day time. And a little more put together look for the night.

I have been obsessing over finding the perfect fitted leather. Unfortunately this one is Helmut Lang so I wont be getting this exact one, but I will try to find a similar one for a whole lot less. 

While dreaming up outfits I would put together once I have my leather, I thought I should put some together on Polyvore. I could have went on and on. You can throw a leather jacket over anything and it will look good. 

The first outfit is my favorite. I could wear a version of this everyday and be happy. The second  is a fun mix of girly and edgy. I would wear it on a Spring day to run errands or meet up with the girls. I couldn't resist putting the last outfit together. Call me crazy but I love it! I think the puffy-ness from the dress and the leather are an unexpected mix but so much fun.

I am loving two tone and cap heels lately. I have lots of neutral and black shoes, but I don't have any in a fun bright color. except for my blue shoes. Day to Night

While daydreaming of being outside in the warm weather, I decided to put together an outfit I would wear love to be wearing-- strolling around the city iced latte in hand, taking photos, thrift shopping and chatting it up with Josh. Instead I'm working a 12 hour shift : /  

I think this outfit is super cute and can easily be worn during the day and at night. I paired it with a bright belt and flats for a fun daytime look. I picture it with a loose fishtail braid or bun. 

Then switch out the flats for nude heels, take the belt off and leave your hair down with big loose curls. And your ready for a night out!
